Impresia Maiden Voyage Reflection

What a success! The Artista Studio recently embarked on the memorable maiden voyage of Impresia, an exploration into the medium of monotype printmaking.

As instructor Bill Harsh shared his vast knowledge, guests eagerly scooped paint as thick as cake frosting onto their palettes. The printmaking process was much like a dance, and turning the wheel was a playful action that elicited smiles and laughter from all involved.

Magic filled the studio as images transferred from plate to paper. The chatter filling the studio ceased as women gathered around the press to slowly lift the edges of the damp paper and reveal their exquisite masterpieces.

From the first day it was clear that printmaking is an un-intimidating, freeing, fun style of painting. Best of all, there is no such thing as making a mistake with this medium. Any flaw can be easily wiped away and repainted.

By day three, prints of all shapes, colors, and styles covered every wall in bursts beauty. As the studio emptied on the last day of the safari the artworks slowly came down from the walls, and were safely packed safely away for the trip home. The prints might be gone, but smudges of paint and the echo of laughter remains.

The next Impresia printmaking session is scheduled for November 17-20, with limited space available.

An Artista Alumnae Shares Her Work

From Artista alumnae, Jamie:

"Hello Carmel Friends, Since about October '07, I have been obsessed with acrylic abstract painting. I have at least 20 finished pieces, many of which will be shown in a gallery this June. The entire creative process is exhilarating and I want to share several pieces with you. I hope to try encaustics this summer at home when I can finally open a door...and I look forward to Bill's printmaking class in November. Cheers to each of you and thanks for inspiration and encouragement."
