Don’t Think About It
Athletics is not my forte, but I will
try anything once. My perfectionist nature tends to spoil
my attempt at most things, so I was nervous yet excited
about my week of surfing with Las
Olas. At first, I was
overwhelmed at handling such a large object in the relentless
waves. All I wanted to do was stand up on that board!
By the second day I told myself to relax and enjoy it
rather than stress about getting up. Soon I was having
fun just falling into the water even though I wasn't
actually making it up on the board. It was when I decided
not to think about it that I caught my FIRST WAVE! That
feeling of balance and elation washed over me. I started
screaming and looking for someone on the beach to cheer
with me! Luckily my instructor, Kristy, was screaming
as loud as I was while I coasted toward the beach. It
wasn’t a very long ride, but it was the best ride
I will ever have as I enjoyed the feeling of being in
the moment and – for once – not over-thinking
the process. What a moment of pure exhilaration!
